A kilowatt is equivalent to 1,000 watts, with this unit being named in honor of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/James-Watt\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">physicist James Watt (1736-1819)<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Between horsepower and kilowatts, the latter is the preferred unit for electrical systems.
